Hello,
I have attempted this on 3 separate occasions, and each time the exact same
thing happens.
I am attempting to dual-boot a MacBook Pro with a brand new copy of Windows
XP Professional. The MacBook has OS X Leopard and I've started the setup
using the provided Bootcamp utility - everything goes along perfectly until
the point where I get a pop-up message that windows must be activated in
order to proceed. (This in itself I found a little strange - I've never seen
a brand new liscence of XP insist on immediate activation, it usually gives
me the 30-day warning).
Anyway, after I click 'ok' to do the activation, the Activation Window
starts to pop up, but it is only a white screen, and the mouse cursor is
permanently stuck on an hourglass. I've left it there for several minutes,
but it definitely does not progress any further. At this point, I reboot the
computer. It then comes up to the activation window again, but this time it
actually shows up.
At this point, online activation won't work because I suspect that XP does
not recognize the integrated network controller, so I select the activate by
telephone option. This is where it gets a little strange. On step 3, it is
supposed to show you a very long installation ID code, but there is none. It
is just completely blank.
I must have done hundreds of windows activations in my time, but this is
something entirely new to me. If anyone could offer some advice, it would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
LiT.
