Hi

I'm importing a column of data with a reference number in it from Excel to
Access 2000 using a macro. The first few reference numbers in the excel
sheet are purely numbers but further down I have reference numbers with
letters in them.

After importing the file, all the ref numbers with letters in are blank in
the table. I'm assuming the import is seeing the numbers on the first row
and creating a numeric field. I've tried creating a table before importing
with a field type text and also tried changing the cell type to text in
excel without much luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

try this

open the Excel file and do a Save As to file type .txt.
then import the .txt file. fyi, the import wizard will be
substantially different - gives you much more control over
the data. set your import specification on the first
import, and let the system build the table; that way you
can easily automate subsequent imports into the existing
table.
(personally, i never import files of type .xls if i can
avoid it - always seems such a hassle!)
