Blank error on send/receive

Hi,

I have just had to restore my PC by doing a clean install and prior to this
I backed up account settings, emails and contacts. Upon completion of restore
I have imported everything, and all seems fine. However when I open Windows
mail and send/receive everything works perfectly, but any subsequent
send/receive all request won't work and results in a blank error. If I click
"send all" or "receive all" buttons this works fine, as does send/receive
function of each individual email account. The only problem is send/receive
all won't work after the initial such request has completed upon the opening
of windows mail

I have tried turning off the email scanning function in Norton Antivirus
2007 to no avail, and equally I have deleted my email accounts and added them
again, but still no joy.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brad

Turning off email scanning in Norton AV is not sufficient.
You will have to uninstall it completely.

I have just tried this and it is still showing this blank error....any other
ideas as to what it could be? Anything to do with importing of messages
and/or settings perhaps?

Remove the account, close WinMail, then open WinMail and add the account
back. Norton probably damaged the account in the Registry.

This problem has been occuring sinc before I installed Norton Antivirus. i
restored the email account settings and messages prior to installing Norton
AV. I just thought I should eliminate Norton first rather than simply coming
on the forum witihout having tried anything. I have also deleted email
accounts and created them again manually.

Any other possible ideas?

I have the exact same issue as you. It happened when I restored an account.
This has nothing to do with Norton, since I have never used Norton!! But
that will be the only advice you'll ever get form MVP's on this issue.
Sorry.

Unfortunately I fear this may be an on-going problem which I will just have
to live with. However there must be a solution somewhere...hopefully it will
come to light sooner rather than later.

Obviously this is an option, but I don't want to resort to this. I expect
software to work, and would appreciate any further advice anyone can offer??

Sorry, I'm fresh out of suggestions.
I don't understand your reluctance to try the WLM upgrade,
now that you've run out of things to try with WM.

Hello All,

First I would like to say this, if you PERSONALLY haven't experienced the
problem and found a fix or APPLIED a FIX that works, don't try to 'help' as
you just waste a lot of people's time and risk really screwing their
computers up more than they already are OR WORSE... Also, WE ALL SPENT A
LOT OF MONEY FOR A PRODUCT THAT SHOULD WORK AND NOT HAVE IT'S EXPORT\IMPORT
UTILITIES BREAK IT... ALSO, I HAVE TRIED WLM AND FIND IT LACKING AND IT DOES
NOT HAVE THE FEATURES THAT WM HAS, SO, SHUTUP ABOUT IT, I WANT THE PRODUCT I
PAID MONEY FOR TO WORK <<< get's off soap-box

Now for A (as in ONE) fix that worked PERFECTLY for ME (which does mean it
may NOTwork for you):

***I applied this fix even though I am on Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit)***

go to this URL: http:

Follow the instructions for RESETTING WINDOWS MAIL exactly as written.

Please follow Usenet conventions and don't type half your post
in capital letters. If you really are an IT Professional, you should
know that.

Secondly, I get it that WLM is not your cup of tea.
That doesn't mean it can't be a good fit for someone else.
In fact, the majority of regular responders here have switched
from WM to WLM. Bottom line, I'm not going to shut up about
it, in spite of your demands.

The average user is usually not confident enough of their
computer skills to carry out the complex Resetting Windows Mail
instructions, without making any mistakes. For them, a
trouble-free upgrade to WLM is a godsend.

It's funny how some people think they paid a lot of money for a free
utility....

I think of Windows Mail (and OE) as the toy in a box of Cracker Jack. If it
works, fine.
If it doesn't work, find something else.

It would be funny were it not for the fact that some people,
such as IT Prof, are clinging to reality by their very finger tips
and only need the slightest nudge.

Mass murderers have motivated by less.
