blank desktop on resume on P4P800

when I put my PC with PC into standby and then press the spacebar to
bring it back to life the hard disk starts spinning but I just get a
blank desktop IE the Bliss background with no taskbar,icons etc Is this
a hardware fault or XP Pro?

Running XP Pro on:

Asus P4P800 deluxe
1G Corsair twin X 3200 ram
2.8 P4
Radeon 9800 Pro

Bios 1008

Have you set your BIOS to reset the VGA BIOS on S3?

Some video cards need a 'wake up' signal after standby.
 
Yes I have, thanks. I could understand it being a video problem if I got
a black screen but I get the wallpaper just no taskbar or icons

Any piece of hardware could be causing it, since even one non-compliant
driver will cause standby to fail. What else is in there?

hit ctrl+alt+delete
file, new job or run
type "explorer"
 
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card
2 IDE hard drives running on the SATA sockets with adapters , One IBM
desktar? and a WD pioneer DVD-rom and Pioneer DVD-RW on the IDE sockets
a Ps/2 keyboard and mouse
MItsubishi Diamond Pro 930sb monitor
Cable modem connected by built in ethernet controller

Thats it

everything works hunky dory if I start up and shut down jus t cant
resume from standby
