I've thought of every possible solution and can't figure out why for the first year, my cd drive will read blank disks and let me burn info on them without any problems and now, using the same type of disks, I get the message that there is no blank disk in the drive and so I can't burn anything on to disk.

Answers to basic questions are:
Yes, I am completely updated from the windows website
Yes, I have ran the troubleshooting option by right clicking on the drive and hitting trouble shoot. No problems with it.
I've had the same blank Cd's ( a big box of new unopened cd's) for a year and those same ones have worked before. I've tried other blank cd's and they don't work either.
I've ran every test I can think of. I am out of warranty. Please help. All the basic tests have been ran, Norton, etc. Using Media Player 9

Just in case, you have "Enabled CD Recording On this
Drive" on Recording Tab of the Properties of that drive.

try a CD cleaning disc,it's a disc with little brushes on
it,that cleans the lens.

Would that be a cleaning cd that I insert into the drive?
