I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 and the first time I use it, Vista seems to boot
up o-k, judging by the audio cues, but the screen remains blank. I shut down
and re-start the computer, choose "start Windows normally," and Vista then
boots normally with the
program appearing on the screen. At the original start, some video component
must be missing or doesn't kick in. I'd appreciate any help.

It's working now, so don't worry about one odd instance.

Contact Dell tech support. This sounds like a hardware fault and since this
is a laptop, you can't fix this yourself.
