Hello all
I had a blackout during the SP4 for Win2k installation.
Now I can´t boot the system. It sends me a message saying
it can´t found the file "winsrv.dll" in the default load
path. I have the file in the same site other PC´s have it.
What can I do?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Pablo,

This sounds like a very serious issue. I am afraid that this may have
corrupted some of the system files and that is why it cannot continue on
correctly.

If you chose the option to archive files when installing Service Pack 4,
boot into recovery console and
run spuninst.bat from the %SystemRoot%\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst
directory.

This should fully remove Service Pack 4 and re-establish known good working
system files.

If you chose not to archive the files, perform the following:

1. Perform a parallel install of Windows 2000.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;266465

2. Once the parallel install completes, verify that basesrv.dll and
winsrv.dll were updated during the SP4 install. Both files should have a
modified date of
6/19/03.

3. If the files were not updated, install SP4 on the parallel install, and
copy the files from the parallel install to the %SystemRoot%\System32
directory of the original install.

4. Restart the server back into the original install and you see if you can
get back into the system.

Note: If you receive a blank desktop once you login to the original
install, boot back into the parallel install, and copy userenv.dll to the
SystemRoot%\System32 directory of the original install.

5. Once you have access to the desktop, disable the anti-virus software,
and re-apply SP4.

Thanks,
