Black Screen Woes

OK - I've been waiting for ever to participate in the CPP, and now that it
has come - it doesn't work. I have seen PLENTY of posts - but nothing
helpful. Would appreciate help with this issue AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Here's
what's happening:
- Installed Windows Vista Beta 2 as upgrade over Windows XP MCE (Media Center)
- Completed install and restarted computer, but computer only loaded Windows
Boot Manager.
- Tried all possible options (i.e. Earlier Version of Windows, Microsoft
Windows, etc.) and all bring me to a black screen with "Windows Vista Beta 2,
Evaluation Copy Build 5384" in bottom right hand corner of the screen.
This is driving me crazy because I want to try Vista SO SO SO bad. Brand new
video card (brand new computer) and no good resolutions on discussion boards.

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!

When the boot gets to that point, just let the machine sit for a very long
time. The first time Vista tries to bring up the desktop, takes forever.
Mine took way over 10 minutes. After that, it will boot normally and fast.

I've read that many people have said to wait a long time - and I've let mine
sit for more than TWO DAYS. Still - nothing new, just a black screen with
"Windows Vista Beta 2, Evaluation Copy Build 5384" in the bottom right hand
corner and the mouse pointer on the screen. I am DYING without my favorite
computer and need help ASAP. I think it might have something to do with the
video/graphic driver. I've downloaded and burned the ATI Vista driver to a
CD, but don't know how to install it with no operating system available.
PLEASE HELP!

There may be another way to get it going. Did you do a clean install or an
upgrade from XP? If it was a clean install, try reformatting the drive with
your XP CD and installing XP, then do the install from XP. If that is what
you did, try this:

Reburn your DVD using 2X speed or slower and install again. If that dosent
work, download the ISO file again and burn a DVD from the NEW download at 2X
speed.

Kyle,
Damn man, I am in the same exact place as you. Upgraded from XP MediaCenter
to Vista with no partition. Lotsa black screen but no Vista. No OS at all.
New dell computers do not come with the original XP software, so no
reinstall. My computer is damn near an extra appendage and I feel crippled.
I leave in for days for Alaska and from the looks of it my computer is not
going to be running any time soon. I have tried everything from waiting to
removing parts of my computer (I even removed the video card and navigated
the menus, by memory, without a monitor) and nothing works. Ive tried every
option on my boot screen and nothing even shows signs of working. My "use
early version of windows" option sends me to a black screen wiht a big gray
bar across the bottom and then freezes up. Please , Please help me as I can
not live much longer without my best friend.

My System:
Dell 3.2 ghz pent 4
1 gig ram
250 gig hd (non raid)
Nvidia GeForce 6 series
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
dvd/rom
dvd/rw
9in1 reader

I bought my Dell in Feb and have a DVD with XP MediaCenter. Red
label with Dell logo on it. I know worked when had to reload
before.
