Hey Guys,

start, neither in normal mode nor in safe mode. I can just see the mouse
pointer and the whole other screen is black. What should i do?
Also i upgraded xp to Vista ultimate online so i dont have a backup cd. I
downloaded the upgrade again on my laptop but i cannot create a disc of that
upgrade.

The cooling wouldn't matter (unless it has a leak!). Perhaps you jostled
the video
card or monitor cable when you installed the cooling system. Try removing
the video
card from the slot totally and reinstalling it making sure it's seated
firmly.

If you see the mouse pointer, the video is probably working. I have
seen a black screen for a Loooong time on first boot after a major (?
a heat sink system???) change. Let it grind for 10 or so minutes
before giving the reset/power a cycle.
Any disk activity? HD cables in place (both ends) something may have
got bumped. What does the BIOS monitor page indicate?

I too am having this same problem with the exact same symptoms. I've tried
updating all my drivers and even disabling different devices to no avail. I
also received a rundll32.exe error "Windows can not access the specified
device, path, or file." the first time this occurred. I can boot up fine in
safe mode however, which leads me to beleive it must be something hanging up
which doesn't run in safe mode. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did anyone get this resolved. We just bought a brand new duo core computer
with Vista loaded on it and are getting this black screen and pointer. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

A new computer with Vista preinstalled shouldn't be having problems. Have
you contacted the computer tech support?

I haven't contacted tech support yet as the site says then we will only get
90 days free tech support. Was hoping to find a resolution microsoft.

Is that 90 days from the first time you contact them, or 90 days from the
date of purchase?

If your computer is very new and does not work properly, your first port of
call should be the vendor of the computer..

I don't know about you but I would expect a new computer to run properly and
if it didn't I would be complaining to the OEM about it.

Do you have an ATI video card? If yes, then run services.msc and look for
"Ati external event utility" Stop this service and change the startup mode
to "manual" Let us know how it turns out.
