black screen at boot up

My computer has been working fine until recently: suddenly when I boot up,
it will make it past the initial booting screens, but when it SHOULD be about
to hit the windows welcome screen, it just goes blank.

i can enter safe mode.
the computer light has a slight flicker of activity every second or so, as
though the drive is stuck in a loop?
i do not have a floppy drive to make a boot disk.

my computer came without winxp disks to get the recovery console program
(emachines - with backup on a D partition - is the recovery console program
on there? in the i386 file?)

after repeatedly turning off the computer and turning it back on, it will
eventually reboot properly.

how do i repair my boot files? or find the recovery console?

thanks!

Boot into safe mode..
Go into Device Manager..
Look at your Display Adapter - write down what the make and model of your
video card is...
Uninstall the driver..
Reboot into normal mode...

If all goes well, you will reinstall the driver and everything will be okay.

thank you!

i have an integrated video card, so I couldn't really find it in the device
manager, but i recalled that i had installed a logitech webcam recently.
uninstalled the driver, and away i go.

thank you. your line of thinking got me thinking. couldn't have done it
without you!

Hah.
Glad to help - even indirectly!

Hello,

The otherday I found ms32dll.dll.vbs infection in my system. I tried to
remove it by deleting all entries in my system registry. Just run regedit;
searched for ms32; removed all which was found there. But to my great despair
when I rebooted my machine, everything went on perfectly upto the display of
wall paper. Beyond which there is no go further. No desktop folders or any
otherthings on display. Only the wall paper.

Please help me to rectify this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Rajesh
