black screen after loading XP boot up

My monitor shows a black screen after the loading Windows
boot up screen, and well, obviously the video card &
monitor are both working because it shows the video boot
up at the start.

But, you can hear the Welcome music it would usually play
when XP starts up normally. And if you press the Windows
key to bring up the Start menu, you can toy around with
the Standby, Log off/restart or Shut Down menu.

Any ideas? The problem occurred when my brother was going
to start up his Tactical Ops game.. since then, after
bootup all we get is a black screen.

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Oh yeah, and I tried starting it up in VGA mode and
changing the video from 8 bit to 16 bit and the screen
went black again.

.
i am having the same problem. XP sucks.

G'day Guys,

XP is a brilliant operating system, it's much easier to
use and more reliable than it's predecessors.

Anyway I think your problem is either related to your
monitors refresh rate or resolution.
