I have a user who is having an intermittent problem. He prints to a network
printer ( HP5) from a win98 PC. About 1/month, he gets "funky" output to
that printer. Desc of the output : Only when he prints from Lotus 123, and
usually the first page is okay, but every page after that is SOLID black. So
I remove the printer and reinstall the drivers ( it only works if I say yes
to the "some files are no longer needed ~ would you like to delete...?) and
it works fine again for a month or so. That wasn't too big of a deal for a
fix, but after the 4th time, its a problem. I'd like to figure out whats
causing the problem and fix it, not just put a band-aid on it each time.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Sounds like maybe a Lotus issue,
but......

Thanks - D

Sounds like a virus to me... <conspiracy> printer toner company gets greedy, so
they write a virus which affects Lotus 123 and checks the system clock every
month and each month the virus sends a totally black page to the printer. Not
really noticable, but if 100,000 people are printing one black page every
month, thats several more toner cartridges and one more drum on their
sales</conspiracy>

When you think it is going to happen again, set your system clock back half a
month. If you now go an extra half month without printing totally black pages,
then it's a virus.

I remember hearing one that would stop the computer at a certain date every
year and freeze until someone types "Happy Birthday Yoshi!", but it is
definately not that one.
