Black line down right hand side of desktop wallpapers.

Looks like the edge of the sidebar to me. It must appear as a black line
when one's wallpaper is white.
Is that the border for your sidebar maybe?

Daze N. Knights laid this down on his screen :

It's not the sidebar, for one it's too wide and the plus and arrow
signs
are not visible. Plus, the sidebar fades if you don't mouse over it.
It's more likely to be in the actual image that's on the desktop.
It sometimes happens when you convert .jpg images to .bmp.
Try cropping the actual picture a little, so that egde is gone.

That was my first thought, but it's a bit far left to be the sidebar border.
I don't think it's adjustable (at least not here...).

Also, just realized: Check out the weather gadget. It's enlarged, which
usually happens only when you drag it off the sidebar.

mxh was thinking very hard :

That doesn't mean the sidebar isn't open. There's one easy way to find
out:
Rightclick anywhere on the righthand side of the line. If the context
menu says 'close sidebar' instead of 'personalize' at the bottom,
you've got your answer... ;-)

That is the left most edge of your sidebar. It appears when you have the
mouse in the sidebar area. Move your mouse to the left and it will go away.

Err, thanks - its not the sidebar, thats closed.

I've tried cropping and recropping various photo's, all of them do the same.

A few elementary suggestions, but:

1) Do you have the Personalize/Desktop Background settings set for 'Fit To
Screen'? If so, does the line appear in any other setting (Tile or Center)?

2) Does the line appear when Sidebar is open?

3) Does the line disappear if you change the resolution or play around with
your display settings?

In "tile" yes, in fit to screen .... possibly yes ... its stretched to the
full screen then, so you wouldn't see the black line butted up against the
screen edge !
In "center" yes.
It happens with any jpg I crop using vista's own picture cropping tools.

Yes.

Yes, the line appears after you crop/edit with Vista's own picture editing
tools.

Quite easy to reproduce, edit any light colour jpg and crop it and save,
then set as background.
