I have this problem sometimes. I am not sure why it happens. Restart of
computer solves the problem, back to normal again. Is there another solution
then mentioned in some answers: "uninstall McAfee"?

The only other solution is to use a different email client program.
Are you married to McAfee? ;-)

Come with a solution instead.

Let's get real. Some things are within our power to change, other
things are not. Smart people know the difference.

Well, Gary, you are surprisingly accepting of crap. I guess your house if
probably filled with broken junk. I've come here with another mail problem
and got a patch download that worked. Like he said, if you don't have a
solution, don't show your stupidity by postiing.

By the way, Menso, I have this same problem. I'm trying to nail it down,
but I think it is happening when I open an e-mail with a picture in it. I
guess nailing it down better would help them solve it.

Menso, are you able to view the mail in the preview area? I am. It is only
when I try to open the e-mail that I get the empty black frame.

It's not at all clear which "crap" you accuse me of being accepting of.

In fact, I am less accepting of WM's problems and shortcomings
than most of its users. I stopped using WM on May 30th when it
appeared to me that WLM had better build quality than WM.

Some of WM's problems will indeed get better for a while
after applying a fix. But don't lose sight of the fact that

a) some (if not most) of its fixes are temporary band-aids
which do not correct the underlying problem. This includes
the much touted Microsoft 'fix', KB941090.

b) some of its problems are not fixable by the end user,
and will have to wait for more Microsoft patches.

Are you guys seeing the black frame in WM - Vista, or WLM-Vista or XP?
Please clarify.

That problem is caused by McAfee. McAfee has a long history of screwing up
Outlook Express and now Windows Mail. The solution, like Gary said, is to
uninstall McAfee or use a different mail program, if you can find one that
McAfee doesn't break.
