Black Balling practices here?

I posted a message a while ago, and made what I thought was a humorous
comment about MS's great wealth and power in the computer industry,
and since that time I've posted about five messages on various WinXP
problems and received no help at all, not even a single reply. I have
left my 'humorous' comments out of my comments...

Do you people, esp. the 'real' Microsoft experts who are paid by the
company, somehow have a way of labelling group members and tag one
another not to comment on a particular naughty member's questions? It
sure seems that way. ;)

Don't forget, I do support you and spend hundreds of dollars in
Microsoft software, and continue to do so.

If that is your practice here, just let me know OFFICIALLY
(inotherwords, someone who is legitimately a member of the MS staff)
and I'll stop posting questions.

Nobody is paid to be here. This is a newsgroup. MS does
host servers that support this and other newsgroups. Some
real MS employees do look at these groups and even post an
answer sometimes. You'll see MVP listed behind some names,
that is sort of an honorary title "Most Valuable
Professional" but it just means that they volunteer and
generally know what they're talking about. Do a Google
Groups search for "Edw. Peach" <[email protected]" and
you'll find 6 pages of hits from several newsgroups.

I only looked in posts to this group, but you posted to
several MS groups and some others too.

This is *not* Microsoft newsgroup. It's *about* Microsoft's products
and is forum for peer-to-peer collaboration and support. Your questions
will get answered, on average, if:

- the problem is sufficiently explained for someone to understand
- the issue is sufficiently intriguing to the "answerer" to answer
- the "answer" believes they have information to contribute and help

I would guess that most people only read these postings once and then
move on. You've got to catch someone on this one-time-reading.

There are articles available on the "net" which explains how to make a
"good" posting. Perhaps give them a read.

To begin with, nobody here is a paid Microsoft employee (or any other sort
of paid employee). This is a peer to peer support group and any work being
done here is on a volunteer basis by other users such as yourself. If you
would like to learn who Microsoft MVP's are and what they do please read the

Secondly no one is "blackballing" you. If you haven't received an answer
it's because so far no one who has read your posts has one. Sometimes it can
take days.

I spent about 20 minutes researching your problem on the Web and didn't come
up with much. This suggests that a solution is not readily at hand which may
explain why you haven't gotten any responses yet.

One thread on the subject of "Scanner and Camera Wizard not working" that I
did run across here http://help.lockergnome.com/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=19465
has several suggestions. As you'll read one poster there finally had to
reinstall Windows to get it working again.

Thanks for your response. I thought a question about the missing
dialogue box for AutoPlay was significant, esp. since MS has issued a
fix for it in one of the service packs, and also issued a tool to fix
the problem, which actually did not fix mine. IT seems like a real
problem, too...what if...someone hit the check box accidentally that
said "always do this action" and didn't know how to get back the
dialogue box?

I thought it was a good question, but it got panned. It's just odd
that all of my questions have been panned lately in these MS support
groups.

BTW, I solved my problem with downloading images from my camera by
bypassing the problems I am having with XP and by purchasing a media
reader, which is probably a better solution anyway. As for the
problem, I'm sure when I get around to reinstalling the OS, that will
resolve, too.
 
I use a Lexar USB 2.0 Multi Reader, it can handle many
formats of media and is very handy. My wife even carries one
I bought her rather than a thumb drive.

First of all, please note that this is a peer support newsgroup.
Nobody is paid to be here or to answer questions. We are all just
Windows XP users, trying to help each other when we can. That's
true of all of us, even those with "Microsoft MVP" after our
names. The MVP title is just an award that Microsoft makes to
those people who they've recognized for providing frequent and
accurate information.

I, for one, certainly haven't avoided your questions, and I doubt
whether anyone else has either; I don't even recognize your name
and have no memory of the humorous comment you mention. If I
didn't answer your questions, it was either because what you were
asking wasn't clear or because I didn't know the answer (none of
us knows everything).
 
Black balling someone in these newsgroups is extremely unlikely, and there
are no "paid" experts here.

As far as not receiving responses to your posts, how long ago did you post
them? If it was just a few hours ago, give it more time. There is also the
possibility that someone who might have the answer has simply not seen your
post.
 
Well, everyone else has addressed blackballing and the MVP question as well
as who pays whom.:-)

Hmm, your question. Try this, open Explorer, right click your CD-ROM drive,
select properties, go to the AutoPlay tab, make sure, "Prompt me each time
to choose an action" is selected, click apply. If it is already selected,
unselect it, click apply, reselect and click apply and see if that resolves
the issue; you might have to reboot the system to get it to start
functioning again.

NOTE: sometimes questions aren't answered immediately, it depends on who is
reading the group at the time and whether or not those reading have a
response. You may see other posts in the intervening period, mostly from
people who are not necessarily reading the posts but trying to find answers
to their questions so the board may seem active yet there may be few around
with answers. Couple that with the fact this is the weekend, some people
sleep later, others actually have a life beyond this board and sometimes it
can take awhile to get a response.
 
You are one paranoid individual. You need to seek psych help or take a pill or something. {:~)
 
Out of curiosity, I searched this newsgroup for any posts by you and did not find your name. I went
back to May 21, 2004 and did NOT see *Edw.Peach* listed in the *From* column. I list just the last
3 weeks on my newsgroups.

you can search on? Are you posting as "anonymous"?
