I have a Black and White Printer - Can someone explain
the difference between printing in:
Pure Black and White
Greyscale
Colour

Aren't they all just going to be black and white anyway?

I posted a question earlier and someone said that
backgrounds won't print out in Black and White - why is
this?

Thanks

Paula,

My take on this is that:
Pure Black and White - It's going to print either solid black or solid white (nothing!)
Greyscale - This will print also in black and white...but will try to simulate different colors using different shades of gray/grey
Colour - Err....Hmmmm...let me see ;)

Will the background print in black and white?
That depends how the backgrounds was created and applied to your particular presentation/template.

If the background is in "format>background" then it will not print
If the background is on the slidemaster then it may print. But you can set how it will print by following this page...

Color simply sends whatever's in the presentation to the printer. If it's a
b/w printer, the results will be in b/w of course, but what works well on a
color screen isn't always the best for printed handouts. So ...

The Grayscale/Pure Black and White options let PowerPoint make a few decisions
about what will work best for b/w printouts.

That's one of the decisions it makes. Generally, your printouts will be
faster, more legible and use less toner when PPT eliminates the b/g and makes
all the text black.

There's also a way to take control over what PPT does when it prints in b/w.

Paula,

I have a white paper that I can send you offline if you wish. It describes
this exact topic. We are in the process of getting it up on the Office
Online web pages but it hasn't gone through all the required steps yet so it
isn't up yet. It you want me to send the PDF file, holler directly to me at
pttincatitexas.net (I'm sure you'll figure out the address) and I will send
it to you.

I also hope to have it up on my FAQ page soon.
