Why have the characters on my Win Messenger all turned
black and dark green and how do I correct this ?

I too have experienced this issue, and thought that with
the latest version of MSN Messenger, the problem was in
fact solved - until it came back today. When this occurs,
all previously red (offline) contact icons appear as
green, even though the text correctly indicates the
contact is offline. This occurs on both Messenger 5.0 and
MSN 6.1 - any help will be appreciated.

Greetings,

This is not a Messenger issue, this is an nvidia video card issue. Have you updated your
video drivers recently (from WindowsUpdate)? If so, what you're
seeing is a bug within those drivers, to correct this, you can either "roll back" the
drivers you installed or install an old version of the drivers from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/pc_winxp-2k_45.33.html

To "roll back" the drivers, click Start, then Run, type "devmgmt.msc", click OK, then
right-click your video card, choose Properties, then Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver
to go back to the previous version.

Hi -

I tried to "roll back" the driver, but got a message
saying there were no stored drivers.

I went to the Nvidia site as you suggested and downloaded
the older driver. This was confirmed by the message that
the driver that I was downloaded was older than one
already installed.

I completed the install and rebooted. No change
whatsoever.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Problem Fixed !

I don't understand it, but, having tried everything that
everyone suggested, without success, I just installed
WinFaxPro and when the installation was complete, Windows
Messeger had repaired itself.

What's the coneection ??
