I have a Dimage Scan Dual IV attached to a Dell Optiplex through a USB
port. Periodically, the light starts blinking although I haven't done
anything to turn on the scanner. The only way to get it to stop is to
disconnect both the power cord and the USB cable. It may be that this
happens when I use my eposn 1280 printer. It is very likely something
hardware related since it happens both under Linux and under windows XP
on my dual boot system.

I can live with it, but it is annoying. Can anyone suggest what is
going on?

I've found out two additional things aobut this. First, at least under
Linux, the scanner seems to share some common pathways with an external
USB hard drive. Second, one it has started, even disconnecting the
power and the USB connection may not resolve the problem, i.e., the
light starts blinking as soon as the power is restored, even with the
USB cable still disconnected. So it could be just a hardware issue for
the scanner.
