Bizarre behaviour in Windows Mail

I have never seen this one before. I poll for mail, fine it works, mail
comes in. I click on the header and the body now takes several seconds to
open in the panel below and then proceeds to appear/disappear roughly every
3 seconds - weird.

I got to Newsgroups in order to clear out the current items and everything
takes several seconds to "happen" - like it's asleep all the time.

No virus warnings at all from McAfee Security Center and the only changes
were some updates yesterday. I've hardly been on the internet at all since
yesterday so doubt if there is any kind of spyware etc. as I surf safely.

I'm aware of that, the trouble is I'm a moderator at McAfee help
forums...LOL
In any case, I've formatted and am about to reinstall Vista. I think an
abortive attempt at installing Linux on another partition somehow messed
things up.
WM only started this behaviour yesterday, and McAfee's been around since
forever.

Some are reporting unusual slowness after the recent Windows Update.
If you reinstall Vista, I recommend not setting Windows Update on full
automatic, and do some testing before and after installing the
KB931768 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer".
At least it can be uninstalled if it proves to be the culprit.

That's interesting. That particular update just took 4 attempts before it
finally succeeded in installing in XP.
I'm having (for the first time in many installations) trouble installing
Vista on my other HDD. It keeps failing because of some unknow driver.
usually Vista installation is a breeze and I never before had to unplug
anything when installing it from the XP boot partition.
I'm trying various "unplugs" and slowly going insane here.
You watch, it'll probably install easily tomorrow after I've given the PC
some rest.

The update KB931768 that was sent out the other day messed up my Windows Mail
and my McAfee SecurityCenter. I uninstalled the update, uninstalled McAfee
SecurityCenter, then reinstalled McAfee SecurityCenter, and everything went
back to normal.
