I have just put a new computer onto a TFT monitor that I have had for a
while. The text does not appear properly - it appears bitty. I have looked
around the display settings etc. but, as a new user, cannot find what I can
do? Is it a compability problem with a new computer?

try under Appearance/effects
use the following.etc.etc.......pick clear type
ok your way out
