when I try to open paint,I get an error "this program has performed an
illegal etc etc."How can I solve thi problem?

Try this, from Rick Rogers

<quote>
Close any/all instances of MSPaint. Then start/run regedit, navigate to this
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Paint

Hightlight (click on it) that key and delete it. Close the registry editor
and reopen Paint.

If that does not do the trick, here are some points for you to ponder:

1. Does this happen when you start Windows in VGA Mode? If Paint opens
fine in VGA mode (but not in normal mode), the video card driver is causing
the problem perhaps.

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/

2. Are you using an external monitor (TV/PC), and if so, does switching back
to the PC monitor help?
