bitmap verses jpeg

When I save a picture the only option I get is as a bitmap, as this is a large file I would like to save it as a smaller size i.e jpeg. This is a recent problem but it is something I dont know how to change. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have time, can you explan how the temp files is able to defalt to bitmap. And is it a setting problem or is it just Windows XP

It is a bug in IE's Cache manager that causes images to default to BMP when
Temporary Internet Files beome full.

Download Cache Sentry, it will manage IE's Cache and helps resolve the
issue.
