Hi,

I would like to know what are the symptoms of BIOS viruses and whether it's
possible to get infected with a BIOS virus while running Windows 2000 Server.

Thanks

Symptoms? It just won't work... At all... Likely...

I agree. Not very likely, and unless you have a magical 100% effective
anti-virus program, you're better off worrying and planning for other more
likely threats.

The threat becomes maybe a little more likely if you expand the discussion
to non-virus attacks that use other kinds of non-volatile memory / firmware
that are more consistent, like printers, routers, PC cards, etc. But again,
without viable tools to detect and remove most of these things, it's not
really "actionable" information.

MBR viruses exist, however. That's why one needs rescue floppies or CDs.

I seem to recall reading somwhere a hardware method for resetting BIOS
to factory default, which would eliminate a BIOS virus. I know it was
possible in the days when BIOS batteries eventually lost their charge.
