does the 8100 A09 bios upgrade support SATA?

Welcome to the 'Windows XP Basics' newsgroups - for help/assistance having
to do with the basic use of the Windows XP Operating Systems...

The introduction you are looking for is:
'Welcome to Dell technical support, how can I be of assistance?'

*grin*

Actually - you do not have to talk to anyone. Visit the Dell web site
(http://www.dell.com)... Click on 'Desktops (Home/Home Office)' and then
click on the 'Support' link from the top menu. From there, select 'Manuals'
and then 'Product Type' is 'Dimension' and 'Product Model' is '8100' and
click on 'Go'. The 'Ports and Connectors' link tells me that your hardware
doesn't even have SATA connections. You can upgrade the BIOS all you want -
without the actual hardware - it will make no difference. However - from
your 'Expansion BUS' page, I see you have 5 PCI slots - you could buy a PCI
SATA card to control said drives.

Hi Kitty CAT,

I would highly doubt it, since the documentation for the Dimension 8100
shows that this unit does not come equipped with SATA interface connections
on the motherboard.
If you are wanting to install a SATA drive in that computer, and you have a
free PCI slot on the motherboard, you could purchase and install a SATA
controller card in order to have the correct interface for the SATA drive.

Shenan

I see that the Dell training was not completely wasted on you.. :)
