bios update

I have a problem I'm not sure how to handle. I've installed SP1 and today I tried updating my bios (this is a version update only). Everything went fine until I got to Windows. It's requesting that I activate the program. However, I have a screen that pops up and nothing except placeholders on the window. First of all, why does this not see my copy of Windows since this update only affects the options in bios, not a complete change (I assuming that this is a piracy issue) and how do I activate a product that I've had for several years without the information that this screen is suppose to have? I've undid the update to get back into Windows, but need the newer options in the bios.

Well, if it's an oem computer, the activation may be locked to the bios, so
this is the only thing that would trigger activation -- or, obviously, a new
motherboard, as that would also be a different bios.

Or it might just be the last change needed to trigger reactivation.

Now if we wait a few moments, someone will tell you how to activate.
