I just updated my bios but now upon boot-up, the screen shows, single
channel mode for memory. I have DDR ram, how do I change the bios to see
this. Everything on boot was working good prior to this. Thanks
As Paul said, you need two sticks in the right slots -- check your manual,
and of course this depends on whether your chipset is dual channel capable.
DDR has nothing to do with dual channel; it means "Double Data Rate," e.g.
there are two transfers per clock cycle.
You can have DDR RAM in single channel, DDR RAM in dual channel, these are
two different concepts, two different functions that are not related.
Another possibility assuming that you HAD Dual Channel results beforehand
with two sticks of RAM in the right channels, would be that the bios flash
screwed things up; of course it depends on which board you have, which bios,
etc. If this is the case it might help to power down, unplug the computer,
remove your CMOS battery, then short the CMOS jumpers, per your owners
manual.
Good Luck,
