Not so quick

I'm the only who uses the box. All of a sudden
the onboard NIC is disabled and the splash
screen is on. I've never had bios settings change.
Is there a way to save and restore bios settings?
How about a tutorial and explanation of them,
other than the motherboard manual...
Thanks : -)

The settings that you enter into the BIOS are remembered and saved by
use of a small battery on the mainboard. Each time you reboot the
machine, those settings are used.

If the battery becomes weak...or because of some other electronic
glitch...those settings can return to the default settings.

If you have a modern mainboard, the battery can usually easily be
replaced.

Try...

www.downloads.com

There should be utilities there that can save your BIOS settings to a
bootable floppy or other bootable device.

Just Google...for the particular subject you're interested in. Or go
to the BIOS manufacturer site...for often more detailed instructions.

Good luck.

Good question. The mb is only 6 months old but it could
be low?

That's my first guess too, though knowing what motherboard it is wouldn't
hurt either.

MSI the one with the 800fsb PE650 something or other.
Thanks for trying to help.

One other thought: check with the mb manufacturer for a bios update. There
might be a bug in the one they first issued and then corrected it later.

I had an Abit KT7 board that was supposed to be able to boot from a
CD-ROM but never would. Abit issued six or more bioses for this machine over
a two year period. I flashed the board with each one and it made no
difference. The board still would not boot from a bootable CD-ROM. However,
I tried the last bios they issued for this mb about 6 months ago and
suddenly it would boot from a CD-ROM..
