My son's system has a Jetway V266B mobo with windows Xp. It was running fine
but now just does the bios/post test recognises the 2 hard drives and the
cdrom but then starts bios and post all over again.
Any ideas please folks? We have tried changing the boot up order in the bios
without success. Am trying to install xp again onto an old hard drive that
had Linux on it to see if it is a hardware problem or just the software.
Could it be the main hard drive is burgered?

has somebody tried over clocking it ? thats my first impression having had
the same sort of problem

Numerous reasons could cause this 'no boot' problem. Two
examples: Power supply voltages dropping - causing a reset.
Boot sector defective on drive. First establish what is
good. Power supply subsystem can be verified by this method:

Any good manufacturer provides hardware diagnostics for
free. What do those diagnostics say?

Boot system from floppy. What happens?

Sounds like a fingergapoken problem i.e. something in the bios got changed
inadvertently or on purpose. At any rate if this problem occurred all of a
sudden it very likely is the result of the bios being changed. It's possible
that the CMOS battery is starting to fail. That will cause the date time to
change along with other internal BIOS settings. Easiest thing to do is go
into the bios and load the fail-safe defaults if the system now boots
properly something got changed in the bios and if it still doesn't boot well
we know what it isn't. This, however; sounds like classic case of some one
trying to overclock or perhaps improve the RAM performance by tweaking those
settings.
