I changed the bios setting on my computer and now it will not boot the
monitor don't even start up.

my system is:
Processor : AMD Athlon XP3000+
Operating System : Windows XP Home Edition
Memory : 512Mb DDR RAM
Hard Disk : 160Gb 7200rpm Hard Disk
16x DVD-ROM
Display : 5x USB
Graphics : 256Mb ATI Radeon 9200SE
Modem : 56K modem
Firewire : 2x IEEE1394 Firewire ports
Sound : 6 Channel Home Cinema Audio for 5.1 Sound
Keyboard etc. : Multi-media keyboard
Ports etc. : Standard Serial and Parallel

Could someone please help me correct the bios.

In the bios i changed the cpu speed to 333 and turned the cpu overheat
detection on and now when i turn the pc on it makes the normal noises i.e
fans are on but the hard drive isnt getting read and the monitor stays off.

Hope someone can help.
Regards
Simon

What motherboard is it? A reset of the cmos should sort it out. Look in
your mobo manual for info on this or post back if your stuck.

I can only see this marking on the motherbaord MS-6775 VER:100
The pc is a time brand.

Thanks for helping me Ian

There should be a jumper you can move to clear the bios. Or you can unplug
it and take the battery out for a minute.

You will see a small button battery, or a large coin sized one pop it out
for about 10 min and it will reset your cmos.

Here is something you can try without having to open the case.
Hold the keyboard Insert key down and hit the computer reset button.
When the lights on the keyboard flash, release the Insert key, and hit
Delete to get back into the BIOS setup.

I moved the jumper to clear cmos but the pc wont power up while the jumper
is in the clear cmos mode so i took the button battery out. hope it works.

You don't need to, shouldn't power up with the jumper in clear position.

The procedure is:

UNPLUG SYSTEM
Clear CMOS Jumper (OR) Remove Battery for 10 min.
Return jumper or battery to original position
Plug system back in

This time, if you system isn't at correct speed with the bios defaults,
try "166", not "333".

Im worried now cause you all say the same thing but it's not working for me.

I did as you said and unpluged the power then put the jumper on pins' 2 and
3 to clear cmos then put the jumper back to normal position on pins' 1 and
2.
I had the cpu speed jumpers set to 166Mhz but it still don't work so i
repeated
the procedure for 100Mhz, 133Mhz and 200Mhz but its just the same result
what ever setting i use.

When i power up the pc it sounds ok fans all work but it only reads from the
HD for about 1sec then nothing happens also the floppy drive isn't being
read and the keyboard,s led for the caps lock don't light up so the keyboard
don't interact with the pc.

What a mess ive got into just for playing with some settings in the bios :-(

Since that didn't work, use the other alternative, removing the battery
for 10 min. while system is unplugged. That should definitely return it
to the bios defaults, the settings that "should've" been loaded when you
(or whoever set this up) first received the new board. Also return all
jumper/switch/etc positions to original shipping state.

Is it possible you dislodged something while inside the case, like the
memory or video card?

Also, "MS-[nnnn]" is typically a Microstar, MSI board. Determine the
chipset it uses then you might look at pics & specs of boards with same
chipset, find the identical or near-match board on MSI's website,

Hi
I tryed it but it's not going to have it. i left the battery out for 8hrs
then put it back and tryed to boot but it just does the same.

Thanks
Simon

I had a look on the site but could'nt find the MS-6775 anyware

Thanks

No ive checked all the cards and there are seated ok.
It was working fine untill i f---ed about with the bios settings it never
worked again after that so what ever i changed in there had a big impacked.

I just found this on the msi site.

"System will have no display when user change the "MEMORY TIMING" option in
the BIOS, from NORMAL to FAST or ULTRA. The selection in the BIOS is for
over-clocking only. But some memories can't be over-clocked and caused the
compatibility issue."

I remember changing it so this is more than likely my prob

Anyone know how to get around this?

Since it has a different # than their other offerings you'd want to
compare it to their other boards with same chipset. If it has integrated
video it might be a KM400, KM266, nForce or nForce2 chipset.

That is one of the settings that should've reverted to default values
after you used the clear CMOS jumper or removed the battery.

I would leave the board's jumpers/switches set to 100MHz FSB until you get
this working, since that will also reduce the memory bus speed, make it
easier for memory and CPU, chipset to work.

Assuming you left the battery out while the system was unplugged, AND then
also returned all jumpers and switches to factory defaults, and verfied
that all internal components are well-seated in their slots, no other
unrelated issues, then the board may be buggy/defective. You ought to
contact Time and see about getting a replacement board.

Please don't top-post.

Ok thanks for all that.
I think my motherboard MS-6775 is a KT6M-ILS not 100% sure.

Here's an update on what ive tryed.
Ive cleared cmos, put the jumpers back to factory settings but no luck.
Ive taken the button battery out with the mains power lead unplugged for
8hrs then put battery back and plugged the power lead back in.

ive tryed using another graphics card.
ive tryed taking all ram cards out then booting just to see if the monitor
would display something but it didn't.

So i think by changing the bios settings ive killed the motherboard cause i
know it worked before i messed about with it but never again after.
