Hi All,
As the subject line says i am unable to boot.
They are connected to the primary socket on the m/b.
A new build system Asus pc4800 deluxe bios 1019
p4 3g
1g crucial
4 hdds
This has been working fine for about a week, until I turned it on after
about a 3 hour break, and no hdds!

bios detects cd rom
two usb devices
two ide hdds on the promise controller (not raid)
no error beeps

I have swapped cables with the cd rom and it shows up in the bios on both
primary and secondary.
I removed the two on the promise but no difference.
I have not changed any settings.
Any ideas anyone?
thanks Peter

Please out your entire query in the BODY of your article(s).

Try disconnecting ONE of those HDDs at a time from the cable (you'll probably
need to re-jumper the "Slave" drive to "Master" or "Single" for it's solo turn
on the cable). The way IDE works, if the control interface on one drive in a
master/slave pair is FUBAR, odds are it will keep commands from properly
reaching the other drive, even if that other drive is undamaged.

Also, double-check the power-cable connections to both drives. (Can you hear
them spin up when you turn on the system?)
I have swapped cables with the cd rom and it shows up in the bios on both
primary and secondary.

*What* "shows up in the bios"? The CD-ROM, or the HDDs? I thought you said
the HDDs were not being detected?

Or do you mean to say that you temporarily cannibalized the IDE cable off the
CD-ROM drive, and applied it to the HDDs, with no change is result?

Or do you mean something else entirely?
I removed the two on the promise but no difference.
I have not changed any settings.

But have you *checked* your current CMOS (often called "BIOS") settings, to be
sure that they did not somehow inadvertently become corrupted?
Any ideas anyone?

That's about all I've got at the moment.
