BIOS/HD Problems

I just put in a new hard drive recently, but the BIOS
only detects it..but then right next to Primary Master
there are like 20 slashes or lightning-bolt shaped things
next to it. there's like about 16, then a space, then 4
more of them.
My jumper settings seem correct, what else could be wrong
though?

You did not say what operating system you were running.

The BIOS should have asked wether you want auto-detect or
user manual. The whitepaper that came with the drive
should tell which settings to place in you BIOS to make
the drive usable. Did you get a setup disk with the drive?
