Hi,

I have a problem where my BIOS appears to "forget" some settings (settings
are restored to default values). However the correct time is always
maintained in the BIOS. Could this problem indicate a dying CMOS battery? If
the CMOS battery is dying could the correct time be retained while other
settings are lost?

Thanks

I have a different situation. I took my battery out to see what kind it was.
When I put it back in, everything stayed the same except the date. Now the
date will not change automatically from day to day. I have to change it
manually. Anyone know how to fix this?

"Could this problem indicate a dying CMOS battery?"
Very well could be.

"If the CMOS battery is dying could the correct time be retained while other
settings are lost?"
Sure. Doesn't a flashlight become dim before the battery finally gives out?

Record your BIOS settings on paper, then replace the BIOS battery. I wish my
problems were as cheap and easy to fix. But I digress...

Since you took it out for a very short time you could have hung some code.
Try pulling it out for a half hour and then reinsert.....
