BIOS anti-virus and Windows XP

Is there any history to the BIOS antivirus feature reading
XP activities as virus activity?
During bootup, the system BIOS reports there is a boot
virus, however an extensive antivirus scan using Norton
shows no virus. Turning off the antivirus feature resolves
the problem and there is no indication a virus is at work
when using the computer normally.
Are there any documents relating to this problem?
