There are a few big changes on the horizon - some closer than others: recent boom in PCI-E and SLi; release of 64bit OS for Windows, dual/multi- core processors, possible introduction of dedicated 'Physics Processing Unit (PPU) for games...but which one (if any) have you already started thinking: '' That will be my next upgrade'' ?

I've posted a poll and you can select more than one

Reason for holding off?

I only got this system together last August/July, promised myself it would do me for a year.

Second consideration is cost. I estimate around £850.00 to upgrade right now to what I want.

So I'm waiting. I really am quite happy with this system anyway (see sig) and by August I expect prices will have dropped.

Unless something else newer comes along by then of course ;)

i've had this a year this month and its still pretty damn fast, so i'll keep this system for family use and build myself a brand spanking new topish of the range system that can handle almost everything :)

That last bit is precisely what I mean m8...what's that 'newer' thing that might force you to upgrade sooner than you plan? I keep telling myself to just let the software drive my upgrades (I'd save loads of cash) but I always end up splashing out on high-end hardware which might have relatively insignificant benefit in real terms. Is there an 'Upgraders Anonymous':)

You have good tatste in hardware btw...raptors (WD HDDs in general) are my favs...DFI LanParty nForce 4 PCI-E/SLi is my next planned mobo upgrade...I have a Gigabyte 3D Pro cooler too (not installed now but bloody good)...MX1000 mouse...etc...

because I'm fairly new to this high end market of pc's what got me lately thinking latley it upgrading to a 64bit processor(AMD 3500 +) and stripping 2-3 sata drives. And I want one of those Ultra Connex PSU's

Pretty much everything :D wish i had the money though:p
eventually i do plan to get SLI mobo with a dual core CPU... not enough cash though!
im very interested in Physics proccesors, wonder if they really work...

What's a dual core CPU ... (The difference?!) lol

And a Physic processor ?! And how much will these set you back ?!

Thanx :P

I generally don't upgrade unless I have to. Or when I have some spare cash I will ocasionally throw some at my rig.

Trouble is, now that I have started my website, I have more and more urges to rush out and get some of the latest kit. I think it is being around it so much now. It's like a addiction, or an infectious disease, or an itch that just needs scratching!!

Cool Alf ! Might get my self one of them ! hehe :)

How much would the Duel core CPU cost you reckon ?!?!

Would it be worth getting it ?

I don't think dual core CPUs will be too expensive but I doubt they will deliver much gameplay performance at first - in fact, i'm sure I read somewhere that dual cores could actually slow down performance in games until games are written specifically for them. Like any new technology for the PC, it's always best to wait a while after their release for any bugs to emerge and get ironed out. I'm still a little dubious about SLi - if I go down that route then i will have to change my mobo and vid, and buy a vid that I stand a good chance of being able to get an exact match for later on (which assumes they are still produced or I would have to get second hand) and even then, individual games require different driver setups so swapping between them can be a pian...and by the time i get all of that sorted out, there will probably be an alternative to SLi that's far more convenient and no more costly...ain't upgrading a pain!:(

But u gotta love it !!! hehe :P

I wanna get SLI x 2 with X850's !!!! lmao

I got 2 questions for u Belloni:

1. Why u want to upgrade to SLi - haven't u got enough 3D marks?

2. How come u didn't guess my picture quiz when u have the MX1000 in ur sig?

:D:thumb:
