Needs BIOS 1007 to support 48bit addressing.

The bigger the drive, the quicker to fail, the longer to backup :-)

For a long life, a drive like that should be used in an air conditioned
environment (drive life depends on humidity and temperature
extremes). Compare the rated MTBF on the drive to other smaller
drives. I would sooner build a RAID 5 array from smaller disks,
if I really needed the space. It would take less time to replace
and rebuild one unit in a RAID 5 than to have to do a total restore
onto a 500GB disk drive. Even if the 500GB is a video scratch disk,
it takes a long time to write out 500GB of stuff, and that is
how much work time you would be losing in the event of a disk failure.

Also, how well do you think a drive like that is tested by the
manufacturer?

Dave:

Do you mean you may be getting (2) 250GB Drives, or are you telling me there
is a manufacturer that actually makes a 500GB Drive???

This is a good point..

In this case it may be that it is 2x250Gb drives, all I was told is there is
a company with a load of HDD's they couldn't use with their older machines
and were stuck with them, inquiries are underway to see if they want to sell
a few for a good price!

If they do turn out to be 500Gb drives, I'll let you know the
manufacturer...

Cheers
