Hi all,
I have been getting this problem repeatedly since just
before Christmass. My PC has worked well up until then.
What happens is that randomly, (as far as I can see) my
Windows installation trashes it's self, to be more
specific important registry files called "system"
and "Software" get corrupted.
I cannot really see a pattern here, usually something goes
wrong, either when installing something, I get an error
message that says xxx cannot load, cannot create xxx,
xxxhas stopped responding...Then upon reboot I get this
error message:
"Windows 2000 could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupt \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced
startup options for windows 2000 press F8"
I can sometimes restore the system to a point by replacing
these two files from a backup, but I usually lose my user
preferances and some applications.
Yesterday, I went to start-up Jedi Knight Academy and it
hung when loading up a mission, the PC froze and I had to
hit reset, then I got the message above.
Another time I was playing LOMAC, and in game my Cougar
stopped working over and over again, then the game
wouldn't start, and on re boot the above error message.
Another time I was using the windows media player, and the
PC froze, I had to reset, and again the above error
message.
This has happened 8 times since just before Christmas. I
cannot really see any patterns, and this isn't just
happening after hitting reset, it has happened just a
normal restart and a normal shut-down and reboot..
It's getting serious now...
Any ideas would be most appreciated
