Big problem with XP install/hard drive

Alright so I reinstalled XP and it froze midway through. So obviously I can't
load Windows, but what's worse is that when I go into the Setup to either
repair or completely reinstall Windows, it freezes again. When I press Enter
to get into the screen to delete my hard drive and start over it freezes
looking for previous installs. When I tell it to repair, it asks which
install I want, and when I put "1" it also freezes.

I put the hard drive in another computer and same thing obviously.

Is there any other way to erase the hard drive so i can start over?

Haven't used this stuff myself but maybe something here at this site can
help.

If you aren't booting with the XP CD in the CD drive, then you can't
reinstall. You must boot from the CD, NOT your hard drive.
If you're doing that, then it sounds like a hard drive problem.

The drive is failing and must be replaced. Don't waste your time, drives
are too cheap.

New 250 gig drives can be had for $75 or less.

Erasing the drive won't fix failing hardware.

Take it out, mark it as damaged, do not use it again.

The one productive thing you can do is to place it in a safe area and smash
it, and call this therapy. This will have the added bonus of preventing
access to any data remaining on the platters.
