Beware ATI Catalyst Drivers

Be careful if you use ATI's Catalyst drivers... Everything went well for the
setup of the 32 bit ISO i mounted and upgraded from. After getting a few
settings tweaked in the interface, I put the cmoputer into hibernate. upon
starting up the computer, my monitor said the video signal was out of range
(I use an LCD Flat Panel w/DVI). Upon hooking up a CRT monitor using VGA I
discover I am getting Blue Screens whenever I don't boot in safe mode. After
Windows checks the internet for solutions, it says that a device driver was
the source of the problem. I let Windows find the best device driver in safe
mode, the driver is reverted to the Microsoft driver, and problem solved.
Just wanted to warn those of you out there that there are problems in the
Catalyst drivers. Also note that i had also restarted a few times with no
problems. Only AFTER returning from hibernate did I have problems.

Vista 5728
ATI AIW 9800 Pro

I tried the Catalyst beta drivers from ATI, they slowed down my system, I
uninstalled Catalyst, reverted back to the included drived from microsoft.

I have looked for updated drivers from ATI and they have removed the
Catalyst beta drivers - the link is still there but no driver...

So I have a $300.00 AIW video card that does nothing but DISPLAY Vista

It ain't a $300 card now...

Don't know if you've noticed yet, but ATI's drivers really stink. And since
Vista is coming out after your 9800 was produces, ATI won't do much to make
it work.

....and the onboard tuner is junk anyhow and not certified for use in MCE at
all. (Yes, ATI may have a driver, but that doesn't make it certified, or
useful)

Underlining the company's leadership in developing hardware and drivers to
support Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Vista operating system, ATI Technologies
Inc. today announced that its driver has been granted the graphics
industry's first Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL) certification for
Windows Vista by Microsoft. WHQL certification sets a high bar for quality
and reliability, and is considered essential by many business and home
users.

Windows Vista is the first version of the Microsoft operating system that
requires hardware for 3D acceleration. WHQL certification reassures
businesses and consumers that ATI graphics processors are fully ready to
unlock the stunning graphical features of the powerful Windows Vista
platform, including Windows Vista Premium(1).

"ATI is working closely with Microsoft to ensure the best performance and
most reliable Vista experience through our top-to-bottom line of graphics
processors," said Ben Bar-Haim, vice president of software, ATI Technologies
Inc. "With Windows Vista, 3D graphics now matter to everyone and ATI's WHQL
certification gives businesses and consumers alike the confidence that their
ATI system is ready for Vista."

Liberal - proof that evolution is not an exact science.

David J - Your opinion of ATI is not what my statement was about, but more
in line about the ATI Drivers for Vista or the lack thereof. We all know
hardware bought yesterday is out dated and overpriced.
