I find some of the "manual" features difficult to
understand. Why can't it be more simpler to just
categorize the anti-spyware into various degrees of
protection whereas the manual functions that can really
help screw up one's system? I find the beta still too
complicated.

Please say more--as specific as possible? Can you differentiate between
problems with the user interface, and problems understanding how to use the
features themselves? Does the Help help?

comments from another newbie tester I suppose? :-)

I really wonder why MS put MSAS into public
testing.................................................
why not get the existing testers to test it out for 30 days before releasing it
to the public for testing?

ooops I forgot
MS bought Giant, added features and release it to the public for testing

I don't think they added much--mostly they took stuff out. We may see some
additions in beta2, though.

Comments from newbie testers are welcome here--the vast majority of the
users of this product are really going to fit in that category, so if
there's something about the features that is dangerously unclear, now's the
time to get it fixed.

maybe if they understand the risk of beta testing and how to submit a report
useful to many,
I doubt that they can contribute much

look at the newbies' postings
nothing on the OS, software and hardware
and I have to keep looking at my crystal ball :-)
maybe time to get more crystal balls

Yeah-- but that's the nature of a public beta. That's why the interaction
with Microsoft is less formal. These groups still have considerable value.
They'd have a lot more if the newer web interface could be used. I expect
that may happen later in the beta.

at the present rate of feedback, I doubt very much that beta 2 will be released
by May and RTM by July

I have to say I'm proud of the newsgroups, because everyones feed back has
really helped to scour this beta of its many issues. I think we will see the
fruits of our labour in beta 2. :-)
