Beta 2 "No new definition file or updates..."

I am using Windows Defender (Beta 2) and each time I check for updates it
says "No new definition file or updates...".

I am stuck at Definition version 1.0.0.0 created on 1/25/2006 at 3:29 PM.

I followed the instructions in this article, and it had no effect that I
could see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105

What else should I try, in order to "clean up"? How does it decide what
definition file or updates are available?

Paul

I'm interested in why you went to that particular article, if you can
recall?

The correct article would be this one:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355

One of the recommendations made in it will be to go to Windows Update, do an
express scan, and apply all offered updates, or some similar wording--and
that's what I'd do first.

The article I reference is actually linked to from Windows Defender itself.
There is a hyperlink that reads "View troubleshooting tips on the web".

Step 5 of KB article 918355 explains the problem. We have Windows Server
Update Services on our domain.

We already have third party anti-spyware software installed and I couldn't
persuade our network administrator that allowing me to add Windows Defender
to my Windows XP system as well is a good idea, even when I pointed out it
would be included in Windows Vista. So I uninstalled it.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks--Glad the (newer) article had the right information in it, even
though your result wasn't what you wished.

Hi,

I'm also having problems with the definition updates. We are using WSUS
(Build 2.0.0.2620) and the problem is that on the WSUS I see that the result
is Error: Download Failed. Result code: 0x800B0109.

Did you have this problem? How did you correct it?

thanks.

Thanks. The problem turned out to be related to Windows Server Update
