Beta 2 build

I'm just curious, since Beta 2 public isn't yet available, am I correct in
assuming that the public Beta 2 build will be different to the one out now to
Beta testers?

Why else would MS be waiting to release to the public?

Not sure, but its possible they are prepping the servers, since this is
going out to 2 million plus folks. I suspect they want to ensure they have
enough servers setup in different locations to prevent glitches such as
unable to download ISOs erroes, activation issues and just general testing
to make sure the experience is good for the end user. There is a lot that
goes into these things, it has to be well orchestrated basically.

So its not necessarily a new build, they want to get as much feed back on
5384.4 (BETA 2 - milestone build) before they move forward. Its also
possible (just speculating now), that interim builds between BETA 2 and
Release Candidate 1 might not be released to the public.

I hadn't thought about prepping the servers for what will be I'm sure a
massive downloading operation.

I am thinking another week for the public Vista beta... what do you think? I
think the wait is seriously driving me crazy. Months of waiting comes down
to: "In the coming weeks..." Noooo!

Andre:

I agree with you about there being a difference between the
CPP versions available and the builds available to beta testers. With x64
the CPP builds were 1 to 2 versions behind the beta testers which lead to
many complaints. I was happy to be able to get the CPP builds for testing
and looking forward to Vista CPP testing.

I like that philosophy ;o)

No, I am not sure. But it has been almost 2 weeks (12 days?), and 3 weeks
just sounded like a nice number. Or at least closer to now than 4 (or 7).
3 weeks sounds like it is very reasonably in "the coming weeks" following
May 23. It's not like they are starting over from scratch again. They already
have it! Oh well.

Well... in regards to the public beta - I'm pretty sure people will agree
with me on this one.

Vista Beta 2 (for home users) and "Longhorn" Server (for IT Pro's) are
really huge releases - those who validate as "hardcore users" of software
get into the technical beta and those who don't can get TechNet and MSDN.
They get the builds first, which is fair enough... but at the moment, their
just letting all us lot settle down with Beta 2 in preperation for the
public release.

They're rolling out the servers, getting them all online to compensate for
the huge flood of users who want the public beta. From the initial release
of Beta 2, this would have taken between 2-4 weeks to get everything set
up - so far we're about 2 and a half weeks in thereabouts. It gives us
testers time to get to grips fully with it, so that people who decide to
download the public beta, we can help them out :o)

Obviously theirs more to it and stuff, but hopefully that sheds a bit of
light onto things. Public beta will be soon - this month almost definately
:o)

It has a link to Nero Burning ROM - it's really simple and easy to use :o)

Zach,
If you had time, and it wasn't a public forum;like this; I'de discuss the
other night in detail with you. Oh,
THANKS for the link. Downloading it right now :-)
Jeff

You know, I think it would be easier if I just work for Microsoft next time
around. That time instead of waiting for the beta, I'd be waiting for the
feedback!
Or just wait until next week. Ah, that sounds easier.

Yeh of course - email me :o)

Zack,
Downloaded that Nero Demo from you;
Thanks, a couple questions from a newbie if I may;
1) Will it burn the Vista Beta to a cd that's bootable-like my reinstall XP
Pro cd from Dell is?
2)If your HD has over 8Gb of info(including the o.s.); Will it allow you to
use more than 1 dvd? Would like to "image" my whole pc b4 I put Vista on.
3) Thanks; again-and I am assuming I can get info about your e-mail from
www.zachnet.co.uk?

Aye it should do - there's a boot folder in the Beta 2 ISO so therefore it
should work. If you're using virtual drive software, it'll only run in
Windows, so either do a clean installation or an upgrade, but make sure you
backup first!

Not too sure - if you image your entire harddrive, it'll have all the XP
stuff on it, so it's a bad idea. If you're burning more than 4.6GB onto a
DVD, it'll have to be a Blue-Ray or a dual-layer disk using a dual-layer
burning drive to do it. Just select the files you want, and then burn away
:o)
3) Thanks; again-and I am assuming I can get info about your e-mail from

LOL - you won't get far with that - there's a K in there and not a H! My
email address is:
(e-mail address removed) (obviously take out the NOSPAM bit!)
