Beta 1 and my dial-up connection

As i'm sure you are aware, with dial-up you often (always?) get disconnected
after 2 hours. I then re-dial and have no problem re-connecting.

However, since i downloaded Antispyware Beta 1 i have not been able to
re-connect to my ISP after the first 2 hours (says line busy) without
re-starting my computer.

Although it may be just a coincidence that i downloaded Beta1 and then this
started to happen (and hadn't happened previous to that), i wondered if
perhaps there was a connection, that maybe Beta1 wasn't allowing the
re-connection to my ISP.

If there is a connection, if this is known to anybody, could you please let
me know what box i tick (or whatever) on the Antispyware to disable the
blocking of my re-dial.

Obviously i've also asked my ISP this same question, in case it's a problem
with them.

Grateful for any help - one tends to panic when downloading stuff and really
not knowing enough about the technical side of things when not technically
minded!

Hi Lolly;
Interesting you should ask that, because I too have the dial-up disconnections,
although I have no trouble reconnecting. Long ago when I had another ISP and
well prior to even having to run an Anti-Spyware (must have been the good old
days), I heard that the dial-up ISP pings my machine for activity on a regular
basis to see if it was still active. I couldn't ever get the ISP to admit they
do this, and then disconnect you if no ping is returned properly. At that point
I had trouble reconnecting, until my account was dropped on the ISP. That
brings us up to 2005.

These days on my soon to be ex-dialup I still get an hourly or so ICMP ping as
observed in my firewall yesterday:
Blocked inbound IGMP packet
Remote address: 224.0.0.22
Local address: 69.85.180.148

I don't really want anyone pinging me so I disallow it, for this address
224.0.0.22 which is always the hourly pinger, as well as all other internet
traffic. My current ISP disavows pinging either, yet there it is traced back to
Los Angeles, every day always that same addy. Going to cable soon so it's
probably not worth my effort to investigate further, but it is irritating. I
don't get disconnected every hour just regularly.

So, I think you should look at your firewall log, if you use a firewall, to see
if your also getting pinged regularly. You could take the drastic step of
turning off MSAS real-time internet agents for a few hours to see if that clears
your disconnect, but I doubt it will, (I'd pick a time frame when your surfing
is curtailed.) MSAS has never given me a ping or other disconnect warning.
Anyone out there a networking guru?
