Beta 1.0.701 having problems updating definitions; "could not conn

it seems there is a sizeable number of people having problems updating with
the new beta 1.0.701; "could not connect to the internet" while my connection
and my updating with other software is working just fine. the tech guys at
Microsoft labs better get on the case and release some info. on the problem
and find the fix.

There's a server problem.

Server Problems.
Wait a day.
Check your definition update. If it's 5783 you're up to date anyway.
 
I have experience problems myself updating. I have the Anti-spyware install
on 2 computers at my home. This morning both computer had definition 5791.
When I came home tonight I check for new updates. One computer downloaded
the new definition 5795. I could see the message telling me it was
downloading. The second computer, I checked for new updates. I did not see
the message telling me it was downloading. It just showed that the
definitions were updated to 5795.
 
I'm not sure you are having a problem--sounds pretty good, to me. If you
do think there's a problem, it's a good idea, in the beta1 product, to go to
Help, about, and hit the diagnostics button. Look down the list for a line
ending in a pair of numbers:

148/148

for example.

If these are equal, the update is complete. If they are not equal, I'd
recommend going back to File, Check for update again.

The beta1 product may update definitions without a visible UI under some
circumstances, I think--I don't know details on this, but it does seem to
happen.

I do see the line ending in 148/148. I guess I have nothing to worry about.
