Your ancient non updated, non upgraded AV might as well not be there.

For McAfee,minimum effort and inexpensive subscribe to McAfee Online,
which will remind you to connect to the web and upgrade and will do it
for you.

That is unless you want a stand alone product that can be scheduled to
auto-update just as easily...or easier.
