I bought and installed McAfee Virus Scan about 3 years ago and have
never updated it. How will I get the most bang for the buck:
Downloading the one year subscription from the McAfee web site for
$29.99 or buying either the upgrade or the complete software package
from Best Buy or a similar retail outlet?

Anybody dealt with pricedream.com? They have an O.E.M. version of
VirusScan 7.0 for $15.99 plus shipping. Are they reputable?

Best way to update McAfee is to uninstall it and install Norton AV 2004

.. Rated #1 by all AV testing agencies everywhere.

To answer your question, I need to qualify your question....

Do you mean UPDATE or UPGRADE ?

Update - Install new DAT, ENGINES and HotFixes (as needed)
Upgrade - Install newer version of the software (kernel) such as going from v5.0 to 6.0 or
7.0.

If you have done NEITHER of the above, your asking for trouble and need to upgrade both the
version (kernel) and make sure you are current will all DAT and ENGINE files.

Dave,

As I said, I've done NOTHING to it since I installed it 2 years
ago; not downloaded any updates, not installed an upgrade.....NOTHING.
You said I need to upgrade the version and get the DAT & Engine files
current. Sounds reasonable, but how is the best way to do this??????

Should I buy the latest full version of McAfee (8.0, I presume)
and unistall the version I'm now using, or buy an upgrade, or
subscribe for a year to receive the McAfee downloads?

Yes, remove present version buy v7.0 (or 8.0) and install it. Make sure you download the
weekly DAT files !

The product is worthless if its three years old and has NEVER been updated !

V7.0 and/or v8.0 will also be worthless if you fail to update DAT and ENGINE files as well.
