Hi there,

I am setting up a new small network with a windows 2003 server behind a
router. I need to be able to access this server from outside the
office. I have an idea of how to setup the remote desktop
software/connection. I have a 2mb ADSL connection coming into the
office and a router connecting the network and ADSL connection.

I am ok with setting up the remote desktop connection software on the
server. It is just the bit about using a public ip address to get to
the server.

I was thinking of getting a static public IP and putting this on the
router. I would then use port forwarding to forward a port (think RDP
uses 3389) to the local network address of the server 192.168xxxxx.

Would this work or has any better ideas to achieve the same thing.

Thanks in advance

John

For security reasons i would be inclined to use the 2003 vpn

ports are 1723 and 50 and 51 (these two are reffered to as GRE or protocol 47)

RDP will work.

instead of using a static i use a no-ip.com free domain with a dynamic
update client
