I want to take the "cover" image of a ppt. made in Office 2003 and make a
jpeg out of it. What isthe best way to do this in both 2003 and 2007?

In addition to what Steve has suggested, to get the highest possible
resolution photo from your previous presentation I would like Steve
suggested create a new single slide presentation. I would then save it as an
html file , making sure that it allowed for .png files in the options. This
will create a folder with all the images extracted from your presentation at
their original inserted resolution. If your image in your presentation
happened to be your back ground image in the folder that PowerPoint creates
you will find two images with a filenames of masterxx_background.png and
masterxx_image001.jpg. XX will be the number PowerPoint assigns during the
html creation. I would then chose the .png image for my new presentation.

Simplest is probably to add a new blank slide so you have just the
background
image and nothing else.

Then Save As and choose JPG as the type to save. Give it a name and when
ppt
asks, tell it you want to save just the current slide.

That technique did not work. When I right clicked on the side panel of the
ppt. slideshow, and clicked Insert, New Slide, or Insert, duplicate slide, I
got a blank slide without an image.

I want to extract the master slide photo. I could turn it into a pdf and in
Acrobat do extract image and get a jpeg but I wondered if you all knew of a
better way.

Also, turning it into a pdf can only be done if you have Acrobat Pro. Those
with Acrobat Reader won't be able to do that (for those who study these
forums).
