Best way to check disk speed?

If, by speed, you mean STR (Sustained Transfer Rate), then:

- HDtach from simplisoftware.com is my long-time favorite. HDtach also reports
other performance params of interest.

- HDtune from hdtune.com seems to get the same results as HDtach, with more
features and a side-effect of interfering with MBM's reporting of HD temps.

- Or, roll your own with a large file and DOS (or pseudoDOS) COPY commands.

Depends what you're looking for. Transfer rate capability at the hard disk
itself. Burst speed. Reads and writes not using the hard drive's cache
(reality check). With or without your current OS overhead. Rpms.
