We are using Windows 2000. I started out with one server in Active Directory with it having the DNS also
I did DCPromo to another server and now can make changes to the User area of Active Directory from
either machine. My question is (or please point me in the direction of articles) what is the best way
to insure redundancy if the original server crashes or we wish to remove it and replace it with another

I have seen some talk about making sure the second server has Global Catalog checked so the users
can log in using it if the other is down. Can they both be/have global catalogs ? Should the second on
have DNS

Thanks

In your setup, making both machines GCs is a good idea. They should also
both host DNS (DNS data is actually stored in the active directory). So long
as they're both DC/GC/DNS, you're okay, assuming you don't lose both
machines. Nothing beats good backups!
