Hello,

I'm running the Asus A7N8X-E mobo, with 1gig of fast 2.0 ram and a XP3200+.
At the moment a Gforce 4 Ti4200 128 8x ist installed.
Playing Far Cry for the first time yesterday I guess it's time for a new
one, but:

what brand and model should I buy?

cheer, andy

Well, too slow. Much too slow. Single player 1024x768 all set to low is...
playable. Anything higher will start making it choppy.
Multiplayer requires high accuracy response, that I cant seem to get from
this card.
The Ti4200 has served me well so far, but after buying FarCry yeseterday, I
feel like playing stoneage hardware.

So what's your opinion, then?

The only way to get seriously good performance out of Far Cry at high
settings is with a fast CPU and one of the new graphics cards like ATI X800
series (just shipping) or Nvidia 6800 (shipping July). The X800 is faster,
cooler, smaller, quieter and uses less power. The 6800 has some
futureproofing in the form of SM3.0, which we may see some use of, but
probably not for the life of the card, so is not necessary a lot of
futureproofing.

You will still get good results from a cheaper ATI 9800XT card, but you'll
probably not be able to run Far Cry at such high settings because the game
is just a monster at high settings.

Far Cry plays and looks just fine here,
A7N8X, Barton @ 3200+, 768MB PC3200, ATI 9800 pro 128MB.

Well if you are after a card that will do DX9 then the Radeon 9800 Pro
and up is your best bet. Far Cry will play fine with this card.
Nvidia have a DX9 implementation with their FX cards that is clunky and
nowhere near as good as the ATI true DX9 implementation (they are a lot
slower).

The next iterations of both ATI and Nvidia cards are about to hit the
shelves and both should also play the game fine .. I am sure .. albeit
you will be paying big bucks for them.

My recommendation would be any Radeon from the 9800 Pro up.

That is strange I have and are still playing FarCry with the a Ti4200 64 8X
; the reviews say it is actually a couple frames better than the 128. I hae
have a barton 2500 with DDR3200 ram clocked and normal speeds and find the
game play very fun ; but If i could part with the cash i would go ATI
also.Have been very disapointed with the new NV cards lately. My 2 cents
hope it helps :)

HI I use an Albatron fx5600 256mb card in this board and hasve no probs
with farcry on that resolution as long as I leave everything else on default
.. hope this helps
